“i became pregnant during my first semester of grad school. i ended up getting an abortion on my first anniversary with my boyfriend…all in the middle of finals week! it’s a decision i’m incredibly grateful i made. i’m also grateful to planned parenthood and medicaid who made it happen – for a broke grad student, finances were the number 1 worry on my mind.  after getting my abortion, i ended up doing a standup comedy set about it the very next day. and that snowballed into producing a comedy show where comics tell their abortion stories. i was very lucky — i live in nyc where abortion is accessible. as a south asian woman, though, i still struggle with it. i’m sharing my story because i directly know the difference that sharing a story can make.”

sarah simon is a poet, photographer, yogi, bob dylan admirer, average ukulele player, teacher, and student of psychology and spanish. also, i should mention – she’s a new yorker, and therefore an avid walker; you won’t find her in the suburbs, and it is a danger to humanity that she even has a driver’s license. a recent graduate of the state university of new york at geneseo (suny geneseo), she earned a b.a. in psychology, and then left to teach english in ecuador. as of march 2019, she will again leave to teach english as a fulbright grantee in uruguay. later that year, she will be publishing a collection of her poetry, “core collection: poems about eating disorders,” with adelaide books.
