statement from debra hauser on confirmation of amy coney barrett
since the death of ruth bader ginsburg, this administration and this senate have chosen to trample the will of the people, disregard decades of precedent, go back on their own promises, and ignore the advice of public health officials to move forward with the nomination of ultra-conservative amy coney barrett, our new supreme court justice. i am heartbroken and angry. more than that, i am worried for the health and safety of young people – from those whose health insurance is at risk; to those who will need abortion care; to lgbtq young people facing a rollback of their rights.
so many of our communities have been put in danger by this reckless, cruel administration and congress. there are wounds that can never be healed, and each day we reckon with all that has been lost.
but the fight for our future isn’t over.
i know it can be hard to find a glimmer of hope. but young people led the fight against this nomination. and now they are regrouping, strategizing, and finding a way forward. and you can help.
donate to help continue the fight for young people’s health, rights, and safety.
the courts can and likely will limit abortion. but they cannot stop young people committed to ensuring everyone has access to the care they need.
the courts can roll back lgbtq rights as the trump administration has already repeatedly attempted to do. but they cannot change the reality that young people believe deeply in affirmation and celebration of queer people and will work to make spaces large and small safer even as forces work to make them more dangerous.
with every new violation and restriction, young people have mobilized to protect the most vulnerable – and they’re not stopping. i’m going to continue to stand by young people and follow their lead.
