i found out that i was pregnant just a few weeks into coming home, and i’d been with my boyfriend for 4 years at that point.
he was back in utah doing summer research at our college, and i only told my closest friend. i went to all three appointments alone, and hid it from my parents. the experience taught me that even with all of my privilege, being middle class, white, in a liberal city, it’s still an incredibly difficult task. without any pain management, difficulty getting days off work, public transport to get to the other side of the city, the expense of the two highly regulated pills, and the secrecy, i’m still furious at the anti-choice crowd. even with access, they made a hard decision incredibly difficult, and more traumatic than it had to be. back in utah now, i have to hold back from screaming at them.
i’m so glad i had the privilege of access.
