i had an abortion when i was 23. i was living with my fiance and attending college – both of us working full time and barely making ends meet. my birth control failed me and my fiance and i decided that an abortion would be best. we couldn’t fathom raising a child when our finances were so tight and i was in the middle of my ba degree.

after the abortion, i was deeply relieved. i had tremendous support from my mother and fiance – no one else has ever known, until now. my fiance is now my husband, 20 years strong in our relationship. i finished my ba, finished my masters, am a homeowner and small business owner and we have a beautiful daughter that we have the resources to raise the way we want (no daycare, extraordinary education, living on a farm, etc. none of this would have been possible had i elected to continue that pregnancy.

it was one of the best decisions i have ever made and i have never regretted it. my hope is that all women who want access to safe and legal abortion are allotted the same opportunity that i was. and i will continue to use my resources to make that happen.
