i’ve always been extremely careful since i became sexually active because i don’t want to have the difficult decision of having an abortion. but when i was 33, my iud failed and i became pregnant. i had a 9-year-old and a 2-year-old and a job and a house and a husband, and i was terrified of stretching myself even thinner. i thought so hard about the choice for 3 solid days until the choice became clear to me. i had the abortion, and i’ve never regretted it because i listened to my heart. but i’ve also never told my parents and only the siblings i really trust. i made sure my kids know so they won’t feel alone if they ever face a similar situation.
